Location_

The village is located in Messinian Region of Mani Peninsula, just south of Kalamata. Belongs to Municipality of West Mani and is only a few minutes away from the main villages of Stoupa, Kardamili, Agios Nikolaos and Trachila. Other less populated nearby villages are Kastania, Rigklia, Platsa, Thalames, Mantinia, Karavostasi, New Oitilo, Kitries, Exochori, and Lefktro, Proastio, Saidona, Lagada.

Barricated on the foot of mount Taigetos with panoramic view, the village of Pyrgos during the Turkish occupation was a natural observatory for the battling locals. A typical old dramatic village of Mani region, dry and rugged, with wonderful tower houses featuring inner courtyards, Byzantine churches and a production of excellent quality olive oil, olives & capers. While in semi-mountainous location, its proximity to the coastal villages and beaches makes it a sweet spot where one can combine both a hot beach day and a chill night under the stars. One can enjoy the tranquillity of the mountain & beach views and gorge hikes as well as a visit to local restaurants, bars and nearby villages. Fresh fish, local meat, natural herbs and wildflowers. Make sure you enter Pirgos Village through its rear entrance. Drive all the way in (100~120m) until you reach a plateau with a downhill ramp on your left leading to the parking area of the house.

Please keep in mind that only one car is allowed at the parking area since it is shared with our neighbors. Additional parking spaces with shade can be found under the olive trees, right before you enter the rear entrance of the village.

In case you are not using google maps, you can follow these simple instructions on your way from Kalamata:

• Take Epar. Od. (provincial road) Kalamatas – Areopolis until you reach Stoupa village.
• 600m approximately after Katerina’s market (located on your right-hand side) turn left towards Neochori / Pirgos / Kastania.
• After approx. 4.4km (7mins) you will reach the front entrance of Pirgos.
• Do not turn right to enter through the front entrance of the village but rather turn left and keep going for another 200~250 meters and you will reach the rear entrance of the village on your right. Enter and drive all the way in (100~120m) until you reach a plateau with a downhill ramp on your left leading to the parking area of the house.
